Installing the Kodak Software and Connecting Up the Cables to the Computer
If you want to upload the photographs you have taken directly into your
own computer, you must install at least the Mounter software. You will therefore
need to borrow the correct cable and the Kodak
DC240 Software CD-ROM. When you're done, you may go on to the next
step.
You may also wish to view the Camera
Guidelines.
Cables to Connect the Kodak DC240 to Your Computer
Choose the correct cable from among the following.
- RS-232 serial cable connection for Windows-based computers.
- Serial cable for Macintosh computers.
- Universal
Serial Bus (USB) cable for both Windows 98 computers and iMac computers.
Unfortunately, this item is out of stock in Malaysia but we have ordered it
and it is "on the way". Hopefully, it will be faster than surgeons
who are "on the way".
The USB cable is by far the best option as it is much faster than the serial
cable. Choose the serial cable only if you have no choice, i.e. you either do
not have a USB port or are running an incompatible OS.
Kodak DC240 Software
Members may install the following software from the supplied CD-ROM.
- Kodak DC240 Camera Mounter Software (Mounter),
- Kodak DC240 Digital Access Software (TWAIN Acquire),
- Kodak DC240 Camera Controls Software (Camera Controls), and
- Kodak DC240 Border Transfer Application (Border).
Members are reminded that they may not install Kodak Picture Easy Software
(Picture Easy).
Frankly, I wouldn't bother to install any of the software except the Mounter.
That will be sufficient for you to transfer the image files from the camera to
the computer and that's all you really need. The other programs either do not
perform particularly useful functions or are so crippled and slow as to be
almost useless. The latter is especially true of Picture Easy. Furthermore, many
of the functions described in the User's Guide simply do not work!
To install the software, read pages 53 to 57 of the DC240 User's Guide. Some
of you may not have been able to install the software from the CD-ROM onto your
home computer. This was a known bug. Well, fret no more, help is here. You may
now install the software by following this FAQ
which I "borrowed" from Kodak.
To connect the cables to the computer and camera, read pages 59 to 62 of the
DC240 User's Guide.
Now What?
After you have connected up the cables correctly and installed the relevant
software, you may now upload the image
files from the camera to your computer.
